Where it is

The B&B sits on Ardbeg Road, running along the eastern side of Rothesay's bay. From here you can walk to the pier, the Winter Gardens, Rothesay Castle and the town's shops and cafés in under ten minutes.

It is a practical base for a car-free trip: arrive at Wemyss Bay, walk off the ferry, and check in without needing a taxi. Buses for Ettrick Bay, Kilchattan Bay, Mount Stuart and Port Bannatyne all leave from the pierhead.

What to expect

St Ebba's offers the classic Scottish island B&B experience: a warm welcome, a cooked breakfast to set you up for the day, and a location that lets you leave the car behind. Rooms are traditionally furnished rather than designer, and the value tends to be better than the larger seafront hotels.

It suits walkers, cyclists and anyone who wants a simple, central base. In peak summer and on event weekends the island books up quickly, so reserve early if your dates are fixed.

Rooms

Bedrooms are bright and traditionally furnished, with double, twin and family layouts. Several look out over the garden, and the front rooms take in the bay and the hills across the Firth of Clyde.

Tea and coffee, a TV and comfortable beds come as standard; the guest lounge has a sea view worth a slow morning.

What's nearby

The Esplanade and pier are a short stroll west, with Rothesay Castle, the Victorian toilets and the Winter Gardens along the way. Mount Stuart is a short drive or bus ride south, and the west-coast beaches at Ettrick Bay and Scalpsie are reachable by bus or bike.
