Watch the ferries and boats from a harbour-side base in Rothesay.

Harbour View looks straight out over Rothesay Bay, where the CalMac ferries arrive from Wemyss Bay and yachts fill the marina in summer. Inside there are high corniced ceilings, two comfortable sitting rooms, a bedroom facing the water and a modern bathroom with a freestanding bath. Outside, a paved terrace catches the evening sun across the water, and the pier, shops and restaurants are all a few minutes' walk.

Where it is

The house is on the Rothesay seafront, close to the harbour and marina. The Wemyss Bay ferry pier is a short walk away, as are the Esplanade, the Winter Gardens, Rothesay Castle, cafés, pubs and the bus terminus.

This is one of the most convenient locations on the island for a car-free trip. Arrive on foot, drop your bags, and walk to dinner. Buses for Port Bannatyne, Ettrick Bay, Kilchattan Bay and Mount Stuart leave from the pierhead.

Inside

The main sitting room runs to the bay windows, with sofas and armchairs turned towards the water and a marble fireplace on the far wall. A second lounge at the back is quieter, with a black cast-iron fireplace, ornate cornicing and a wood floor.

The front bedroom has windows on two sides looking over the bay, fitted wardrobes and towels laid out on the bed. The bathroom is modern and dark-tiled, with a separate shower and a freestanding bath.

What to expect

Harbour View is all about the outlook. Being beside the water means you are in the middle of Rothesay's working seafront, with ferries coming and going and yachts tied up in summer. It is central rather than secluded.

It suits visitors who want to be where the action is: close to restaurants, able to walk everywhere, and happy with a town setting. Book ahead for summer weekends and events — Rothesay's best-located properties sell out first.

What's nearby

The harbour, marina and Esplanade are on the doorstep. Rothesay Castle, the Victorian toilets and the Winter Gardens are a short stroll, and the west-coast beaches, Mount Stuart and the West Island Way are within easy reach by bus or bike.
